The Telltale Signs of a Sweet Spot Entrepreneur

Lisa Berkovitz by on Tue, Feb 7th, 2012

I have been a passionate traveller as far back as I can remember. While I was still in the corporate world, and long before I started helping people get into their Sweet Spots (or even realized that it was my calling), I travelled often for my job and on every one of my holidays – mostly, at that time, all over North America and Europe.

It’s cool to look back and see that the clues to my purpose were already starting to present themselves back then, and particularly when I was doing what I loved to do most at the time which was exploring new cities and countries. I seemed to have this natural radar for finding the best possible experiences in each location, whether it was hotels, B&B’s, restaurants, bakeries, dance studios, kayak companies…whatever it was that the place I was visiting had to offer.

I got so good at it that, not only did I have my own exceptional travel experiences, but I became a sought-after resource for others who were going to travel to those places and who wanted to find out what to do and where to go in order to have an exceptional experience too.

As I look back on it, I can see that what made those experiences and recommendations so remarkable was that I was consistently finding people on those trips who were in their Sweet Spots. They simply offered a superior quality product or experience that made the alternatives pale by comparison.

What I looked for back then (without realizing it) is the same thing I look for today: the telltale signs of someone in their Sweet Spot. They consistently share these main qualities in common:

- Consistently positive word-of-mouth reputation
- Clearly passionate about what they do
- The kind of person/environment that others love to be around/in
- Having fun such that it seems like they’re playing while they work
- Emanating positive, uplifting energy (energy is most definitely contagious!)
- Thriving in their business – it’s busy, happening, buzzing
- Consistently high quality in what they do that shows  from the very beginning of your experience with them right to the end and in all the details, from their marketing materials to their bathrooms (no kidding, I check)
- A certain lightheartedness and ease in what they do and how they do it
- There’s love infused right into their product or service
- They/their businesses make people SMILE  : )

It’s actually really easy to spot someone in his or her Sweet Spot if you’re looking for it – and I highly recommend looking for it, not only when you’re travelling but also as part of your day-to-day life at home.

Not only will you have the best possible experience as a customer of that person’s product or service (and why wouldn’t you want to choose that instead of the alternative?), you will also be literally schooling yourself in how to move into your own Sweet Spot yourself. What you focus on grows.
