Facebook Timeline Sparks Raging Debate

By now, you’ve no doubt seen the Facebook timeline emerging on your friend’s pages. It’s a brand new look for the social networking giant, and one that has triggered a bit of a firestorm.

According to the UK Telegraph, just one in ten Facebook users support the timeline feature.

For those who don’t get what all the fuss is about, the article breaks it down quite simply:

“It means that, unless they are deleted, any long forgotten musings, embarrassing photographs or even messages of affection for a past lover will be easily accessible.

At present other users can only find material from several years ago by trawling through past pages.”

The criticism is that it makes privacy an even more fanciful concept for Facebook users.  Of course, Facebook insists that it’s not making anything public that wasn’t already. But, it appears obvious that users should be warned: Facebook isn’t interested in helping anything about you stay hidden.

What are your thoughts about the new timeline feature? Please share in the comments.
