Get It Done Advice for Creative Folks
The other day, I stumbled across a really exciting website called the99percent.com. (No, it’s not a part of the Occupy movement, despite the name.)
Since I spend the vast majority of my life scrounging around the Internet for awesome stuff, it always surprises me when I find something magical like this that has somehow slipped under my radar. I may be slow in some areas of life, but I know awesome when I see it, and this my friends is a spectacular site.
“Insights on making ideas happen.” That’s the tagline. Are you in love already? I am.
The site is full of helpful “get it done” tips for creative individuals. There are so many great articles, I couldn’t choose just one to highlight in this blog post. So, instead, I’m highlighting the whole site. Here are a few of my favorite features to get you started:
The 40-30-30 Rule: Why Risk Is Worth It
“Only by trying something new, struggling, learning, and then trying again do we improve our performance. It’s a simple matter of acclimating to unchartered territory.”
Layering: Multitasking That Actually Works
“I define “layering” as strategically deciding to do tasks that require different “channels” of mental functioning such as visual, auditory, manual or language.”
The Rhythms of Work vs. The Rhythms of Creative Labor
“As creative professionals, it’s easy to confuse “work” and “labor” — both are a regular part of our everyday. But when we confuse one for the other, we create the illusion that “creative labor” can be willed, managed, or measured, when, in fact, it can only really be, as Hyde points out, beckoned.”
